The Port
Trust has vast green field area to the extent of over 450
hectares at Vallarpadam and Puthuvypeen for development of
port facilities and Port Based Industries.
Puthuvypeen site is ideal for the
bunkering terminal (IBT) which will cater to vessels
calling at the port and those passing through
international waters.
The IBT require a minimum anchorage area of about 4.5
square nautical miles in the open sea within the port
limit, land and water frontage on lease as per the
requirement for developing the facilities.
The development of
Container Terminal for a very large terminal
to accommodate 5th and 6th generation vessels, the
outer harbour in Puthu-Vypeen offers immense
possibilities.
The setting up of this terminal and other projects of
international significance would create a large pool
of direct and indirect employment, infrastructure
development, among other benefits. The infrastructure
support itself make the private investment possible
and viable.
