Cochin Port
has already received good response to the tender floated for
setting up India’s first international bunkering terminal.
Senior port officials claim that Kochi is likely to raise
stiff competition to other terminals at Colombo and Singapore,
thanks to its strategic geographic location with proximity to
international trunk trade routes and as a major port. The
terminal is proposed to be set up at Puthuvypeen, an area near
the entrance to Kochi Harbour.
The activities proposed to be provided are bunkering, lube oil
supply, de-slopping, garbage collection, fresh water supply,
ship repair, crew change and storage facilities. The total
project is expected to be around Rs 200 crore cumulatively.
