Nhava Sheva
International Container Terminal (NSICT) is India’s first
privately managed container terminal.
NSICT is conveniently located on the west coast of India,
close to Mumbai the country’s commercial capital.
Super-speed catamarans allow visitors from the city to
reach the terminal in just 20 minutes. NSICT also links to
a wide network of inland container depots in Pune, Nagpur,
Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Ludhiana and New Delhi through an
exclusive railhead that operates two trains
simultaneously.

The terminal combines 600 m of quay line with a draught of
13.5m at berth and a paved container yard area of 30
hectares. It has a capacity of 1.1 million TEUs and is
capable of handling fifth generation
vessels.
NSICT is run by P&O Ports a subsidiary of the Peninsular
and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, UK. Developed at a
cost of US $250 million, the terminal was set up in the
shortest lead-time for a project of its size.
P&O Ports is a leading port operator overseeing 21 ports
in 19 countries around the globe. Its vast experience in
this field enables NSICT to offer world-class services to
its clientele who can now reliably ship cargo directly to
and from India.
Currently it is managed under a Build-Operate-Transfer
agreement set up with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT)
of the Government of India.
The three P&O Ports managed terminals in India, namely
Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT),
Chennai Container Terminal (CCT) and Mundra International
Container Terminal (MICT) have successfully completed an
audit under the stringent standards of the BS 7799
(accepted as the global standard ISO 17799) conducted by
the British Standard Institute, India and has been
certified as BS7799 Compliant organization.
